My Top 6 Anticipations for THE FORCE AWAKENS

Here are the top 6 things I'm excited about with the new upcoming film, THE FORCE AWAKENS (comes out December 18th; I'll be seeing it on the 19th)!

1. Han Solo, Leia, Chewbacca, and Luke back on the big screen! I'm very excited to see the old gang get back together. I just watched THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK last night as part of a STAR WARS marathon, and I loved watching them. I'm even more excited to see them escape from Jabba the Hutt tonight in RETURN OF THE JEDI.

It'll be great to see what they have been up to the last 30 years and what their roles will be in THE FORCE AWAKENS. I already love it when Han Solo tells Finn and Rey (new characters) in the official trailer that the Jedi and the Sith which are legends to them are all true. All of the stories are true and really happened. That truly gives me goosebumps every time.

2. Most specifically Luke! What has he been up to? He has been shrowded in mystery. Will really have no idea what his situation is and have only seen him once in the trailers. So excited to see where my top favorite STAR WARS character is in life and what role he has in this new trilogy. Has he tried to train some Jedi? So many questions go through my mind about him.

3. Who are Finn, Rey, Poe Dameron, and Kylo Ren? Like really, who are they? What are their roles? What are their histories? I'm so excited to learn about them. Watching them in the trailers gets me really excited to see what they contribute to the STAR WARS universe.

4. I'm excited for the special effects! Back in the day, the original trilogy's effects were state-of-the-art best there was back then. I thought the effects in the prequels were pretty good, but there was too much computer-generated animation (CGI). I mean, it is necessary to have some CGI, but REVENGE OF THE SITH had way too much. From what I've seen in the THE FORCE AWAKENS trailers and behind-the-scenes footage, looks like the original trilogy's special effects are making a comeback. Plus the CGI used in the trailers looks amazing compared to the prequels. So this should be awesome to see come next Saturday (for me).

5. The music. John Williams is a master of film scores. Just watch previous STAR WARS films, INDIANA JONES films, and E.T. for example, and you will agree. I don't need to even watch the movies. I can listen to his music by itself and never get bored. I'm very excited to see what new scores he has planned for THE FORCE AWAKENS, and I'm especially excited to hear the original STAR WARS themes come back like for example, Leia's.

6. Lastly, I'm excited for the plot. Lucasfilm and Disney have shown us a lot of footage without sharing that much about the plot. They have been teasing us like crazy, and I'm ready to see how it comes together. What adventures will the characters, old and new, all have? What new planets will we see? What new technologies will be brought into the universe? What old technologies will we see? I'm so excited to give meat and details to all of the teasing clips and images they have shared with us.

Luke Skywalker

Today I wanted to highlight one of my many favorite characters from the films...Luke Skywalker. I love watching the journey he takes throughout the three films of the trilogy and I'm excited to see where we find him in THE FORCE AWAKENS. As has been said, one reason J.J. Abrams agreed to direct the film was the question, "Who is Luke Skywalker?".

There are two main reasons why I love the character of Luke Skywalker.

1. The way he faces the challenges of being thrust into a battle between the rebels and the Empire. He starts from a farm boy who doesn't know who his parents are to finding out that his father was once a great Jedi and is now a great Sith. Watching A NEW HOPE, one part that really peaked my interest for the first time was the way his facial expressions when he saw that his aunt and uncle were killed. It went from sadness to resolve to help the rebellion in bringing down the Empire. With every new challenge he met, he met it with a new and stronger conviction. When he knew that he had to face Darth Vader in battle, he embraced the challenge and gave it his all. When it was down to him to destroy the first Death Star, he embraced the challenge and succeeded with the help of friends. My favorite though is that even though his father, Darth Vader, had fallen to the dark side, he embraced the challenge and strove with all that he had to turn his father back to the light. That brings me to #2...

2. Luke Skywalker had faith in his father that his father could come back. I read that again in a recent novel, DARK DISCIPLE, and brought a new emphasis to two things Luke definitely had...faith and hope.

Luke, in how he embraced his challenges with courage, faith, and hope, is an great example that we can succeed if we just have those three things.

One of my favorite experiences of his is when he gives up and feels like the challenge is too great to life his X-Wing fighter from the swamp. When Yoda does it, and teaches him a lesson, and then later when he doesn't beat Darth Vader but fails, I just imagine to myself how much of a growing experience those two events were. He came back the next movie more confident as a Jedi. He was more ready and more courageous to face the challenge head on of helping his father come back from the dark side and to bring down the Empire.

I'm sorry for the rambling on, but Luke really is the most amazing character in the STAR WARS saga and has always been my number one favorite character. I'm very excited to see what he's been up to between RETURN OF THE JEDI and THE FORCE AWAKENS and what role he will play in the upcoming trilogy.

A True Artist of Music

One aspect of the STAR WARS films I really love is the music. John Williams is a true artist of music in the way he wrote the music for the films.

I remember once watching the behind-the-scenes of E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL, and I saw John Williams leading the orchestra while the film was playing on a big screen. The music was moving. It especially had a great impression when I watched him lead the orchestra into the main E.T. theme when E.T. and Elliot lifted off the ground. Watching John Williams lead the orchestra into that amazing theme was a feeling I will never forget. The feeling is indescribable.

It is the same with his STAR WARS pieces. There are so many themes and all of them are moving, amazing works of art. Some of my top favorites are "Star Wars Main Title", "Princess Leia's Theme", "Tales of a Jedi Knight/Learn About The Force", "Yoda's Theme", "Yoda and the Force", "The Imperial March - Darth Vader's Theme", "Carbon Freeze", and "Luke and Leia". I'll talk more about what I love about them in the future, but for now that's my list.

If I had to pick my #1 favorite of those, it would be, "Yoda and the Force". The reason why is because it is a good, moving piece during an essential moment of Luke's growth in the force. It occurs when Luke fails to lift his X-Wing fighter out of the Dagobah swamp, and gives up saying that it's impossible. Then Yoda successfully lifts the fighter showing to Luke that all things are possible with the Force on your side. Yoda teaches him that he needs to believe in order to succeed.

John Williams did an amazing job with the music during that scene. Without it, the learning moment Luke has would not be felt so intensely. That is true with all moments in the STAR WARS saga. Without John Williams' moving music, it would not be as great of a saga as it is.

Feel free to comment on this post about what I wrote and also your opinions on John Williams' amazing artistic work.

Here is a video of the scene so y'all can feel the power that his music has on amazing, inspiring moments like this one in the STAR WARS films.

This below is the theme from E.T. I talked about earlier.

First Memory

This is my first post of this blog where I share my love for Star Wars. I wanted to write my earliest memory of Star Wars.

My dad took me and my brothers to watch the special edition of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope in the movie theater. Ever since then, I have always loved the Star Wars universe. It was a small love at first, but it has grown over time more and more until today where it is one of my biggest obsessions.

So what was y'all's first memories of Star Wars? Comment on this post if you want.

Plus, follow my blog. I will be posting more Star Wars-related stuff in the future!
